Sunday, January 11 from 10am-10:30am
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater | Joan Weill Center for Dance
405 West 55th Street (@ 9th Avenue), 5th Floor

Arctic_Jody_2Time Lapse Dance presents a free showcase performance as part of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) conference. Climate science and dance merge in the company’s spectacular productions.

This spring, choreographer Jody Sperling accompanied a seven-week science mission as choreographer-in-residence aboard an Arctic ice-breaker. During that time, she had the unique opportunity to dance on the polar ice cap. She will perform her solo “Arctic Memory” which brings the Arctic home, conjuring up its vast expanses and exposing its vulnerability.

The program will also include Sperling’s Turbulence performed by the company’s six dancers. This work distills patterns of air disturbance, following the physics of fluid dynamics, into kinetic sculptural forms.
