This October, Time Lapse Dance spreads its wings at the Fine Arts Concert Hall at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. The company presents a repertory program including TurbulenceTime-Lapse Fantasy and Sperling’s signature “Clair de lune” solo. Visual delight and kinetic spectacle are key elements of the Time Lapse Dance aesthetic. The work features contemporary interpretations of modern dance pioneer Loie Fuller with hypnotic fabric-and-light displays combined with circus arts making for a breathtaking and sensuous experience for the audience.

Boston based Luminarium Dance, which has its roots in the Five Colleges Area Dance program, opens this evening’s concert. The company fuses innovative lighting with diverse movement styles. An ideal complement to the visual work of Time Lapse Dance.

In conjunction with the performance, the company offers two other outreach activities. The first, a master-class in Loie Fuller technique will be offered at Mt. Holyoke to dance students. A free public lecture on Loie Fuller and Early Cinema will be given on the 26th Floor of the W.E.B. Du Bois Library, UMass on Wednesday, October 2, from 5-6pm. The concert and outreach activities are sponsored by the Asian Arts & Culture Program at UMass.

*For ticket holders a pre-performance talk will be presented at 6:45pm by Billbob Brown, professor of Dance at the University of  Massachusetts.
