Loie Unveiled (2012)

Loie Unveiled

A work weaving together biographical fragments of Fuller’s fascinating life with images of her creation. Onstage, Fuller transformed herself into a phantom, fairy, ghost or a calla lily, but rarely appeared as simply a person. In this piece, Sperling exposes some of the mechanics behind Fuller’s striking transformations and shows us the woman beneath the fabric. The piece opens with a brief film tribute to Fuller’s art and legacy, includes a dramatization of Fuller’s discovery of her art and leads into Sperling’s signature tribute to Fuller, “Clair de lune.”
