The Tour Goes on!
We've been planning a tour of Egypt with the Hakawy International Arts Festival for almost three years, which was to be partially-funded by the US Embassy in Cairo. One day prior to departure for our team of nine artists, we received notice from US State Department terminating our $30K contract, as it no longer "effectuates agency priorities."
The festival organizers had the impression that our program was targeted for its climate-change message. It's clear now that the termination is part of a broader orchestration of chaos.
Despite the State Department's notice, we are going through with the tour! It would have been almost expensive NOT to go as to go. Flights, hotels, venues were already booked. Artists were already contracted; MidAtlantic Arts, one of our other funders, would have required us to return a $12,750 grant.e need your help to get through this crisis.
