Time-lapse fantasy (2013)
6 dancers, 25 minutes
Jody Sperling’s Time-Lapse Fantasy envisions a mythic journey through past, present and future. “Past” imagines an ancestral tribe of women weaving their way through a world thick with spirits. Sperling’s solo, “Present,” suspends the present moment as she swirls an enormous cape adorned with concentric rings (painstakingly hand-painted on white silk by Gina Nagy Burns, pictured above). In “Future,” five dancers whirl their way to transcendence.
The stylish costumes are designed by Mary Jo Mecca. The original score is by Bessie Award-winning composer Brooks Williams and his partner Beo Morales.
Time-Lapse Fantasy premiered on June 27, 2013 at Danspace Project.
